I have to reconfigure everything, because restoring the prefs results
in boot-loops.  And now, I'm finding that some apps (at least one so
far) is refusing to accept my key.

I don't think the power saving thing is an option, rather it's "just
how it works".  Apparently, the mp3 ringtone support works the same was
as installing other ringtones:  via email or Blazer into the Sounds
app.
