Delete the Palm device in XP's device manager window, then try plugging it
again and HotSyncing. You should see XP showing a balloon pop-up saying that it
is configuring a USB device, and eventually classifying it as a Palm device.
Your first HotSync may fail because of the time it takes. Try HotSyncing a
second time and see if it goes through.

Subject: [Treo] USB Problem
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [email protected]

Suddenly my Windows XP laptop is not recognizing my Treo680. I keep getting
the "unknown device error" for USB devices. I tried hard/soft resets,
re-installing the desktop, switching cables... I tried manually installing the
driver - palmusb.inf when the Windows error pops up but that didn't work.
