You don't need to roll back the PC at all. Just do the filename changes, 
hotsync. Assuming the target Treo is a new unit with nothing in it, 
you'll be asked to select a user, then the desktop will write into the Treo.
If the Treo has anything in either the calendar or contacts, you might 
want to set the hotsync to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" for the 
calendar and contacts, just to make sure you get replace someone else's 
data with your own.
The date on the desktop makes no difference to this process. Whatever 
data is in those renamed .bak files will become the latest of which Palm 
is aware. If that's three weeks old, you'll have to reenter anything you 
entered in the intervening weeks. The individual entries include the 
date to which they were assigned, but the database -- the collection of 
entries -- cares not a whit what day you entered them or what day you do 
the backup.
