Sorry Craig, I sometimes seem to get some of the emails in this group either
out of order or not at all, so I missed anything that was overly proseltyzing.
Alli's message without this seemed a bit off, and even with this her follow-up
seems still a bit off:

"The occasional comparisons can't be helped, but do you invite the
preacher from the other church to give the guest sermon every week?"

I guess I just don't see this as a church, but rather a town-square. I
certainly understand why we shouldn't be talking SOLELY about other devices.
We should at least be relating them to Treo's in order for them to be relevant
to the mission of this group.

And as I mentioned, the fact that Palm has decided to make WM devices kind of
blurs the lines a bit here. Many of the Palm fans on this list equate Palm
with PalmOS. That's only natural, but Treos now come in WM flavor as well, so
the question is, although there are only a few of us on here compared to the
majority of PalmOS treo users, can we still talk freely about WM Treos?
Practically speaking I don't do this because there are so few others with WM
devices here (that I've seen post), it seems more fruitful for me to post to
WMExperts/TreoCentral. But I do keep a subscription here specifically because
some of the GENERAL discussion here (not specific to Treos or to Palm), is
interesting to me. There are lots of knowledgeable people here who have
experience with not just Treos and not just PalmOS. I know that the name of
the group is called Treo, but it is this more general discussion that I find
most interesting these days partly because I know longer use PalmOS.

In any case, I think people advocating for a particular OS either by constantly
saying how great it is or by constantly trashing others doesn't really add a
whole lot of information, mostly noise. I've come to believe that reputations
for one device or another are just that - reputations. They are not scientific
studies, and there are bound to be lemons for every device out there that cause
one person or another to have the impression that the device is trash and to
spread that impression. A lot of this boils down to personal tastes and
personal experiences, and simply what a given person's need is for various
features and functions. Yet people still seem to get overly attached to a
given device or OS, and of course it's not only true with just smartphones.
Anyone remember alt.pc.windows.advocacy? Oh, maybe it's still out there, but I
stopped looking at newsgroups at least 10 years ago! :)

Hardly my/our objective, Levi...if you recall, I've been quite
critical of Palm in the past and have even publicly stated my desire
to see how Android might offer me a next move. I'm all for discussion
and debate (and thoughtful, balanced comparisons to alternatives), but
coming in here like a pack of Jehovah's Witnesses and distracting the
conversation by constantly beating the Blackberry drum just isn't
highly regarded.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but, as Joel and others have
clearly stated, this group is first and foremost a place for Treo
owners (and potential owners) to share useful information about Treos.
It doesn't have to always be on-topic (for Pete's sake!), but when a
particular individual shows a pattern of consistent disregard for that
overall guideline, temporary moderation is put into effect.
