Don't know about those first two, but FWIW I usually open the keyboard with both thumbs, one on either side of the top part of the Pre. Sometimes (if the screen is not pristine, and therefore is not very slippery) I open the keyboard with one thumb in the bottom center of the screen, about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom (pushing up). Not sure if this pushing on the screen is bad, though, so I usually try to use the first method.
