I'm JUST over 40 and learned to touch type on a computer, but I still
normally use two spaces.  I didn't even know that this wasn't "correct"
anymore until a few years ago, but I haven't yet been able to curb the
habit.  The one thing that is STARTING to push me in that direction is using
Twitter, where removing those extra spaces can make a big difference in
being able to communicate a thought more fully...
