Only you can decide that since the level of awkwardness is determined by
you. 

I own a Palm Pro and love it. I also really like my back up Palm 800w phone
as well. I have no problems with WM devices, and coming from a 755p I found
nothing awkward about it. Learning curve yes but with any platform theres
always a learning curve. 

I will say as an owner of Palm Pro, it's a good solid device. 
Past devices have been Touch Pro, Mogul, 800w, and a few others I am
forgetting. So I have some experience with WM devices.
