But can a Palm Profile be created if the phone has no service?  I don't
think so.

The only difference I can see from my situation is that you're dealing with

two Palm Pre's, where I'm dealing with a Pre and an Evo. Perhaps the Palm

infrastructure won't allow two devices to log in to the same profile? What

if you create another one and use that? You wouldn't have the same settings

on each device, but perhaps that's what you want, anyway!

Thanks for that information, but I don't understand how it got hard reset.

I certainly didn't do it (intentionally). I received the replacement Pre in

the mail. All I did was turn off the old one and activated the new one.

Then later when I tried to use the old one (to get to some apps), it wanted

to create a Palm profile, etc. Weird.

He has apparently been hard reset.

If you turn it on and its asking you for a Palm Profile, it is back to

factory specs. The only way to use it is to have it activated, login to your

old Profile, have it set back up and hope that the apps you need were part

of the back up.

Had the device not been hard reset, then yes you could simply turn it on and

use wifi, in theory.

Wifi. I'm doing that now with my Pre as I'm evaluating the Evo. . .

Is there a way to use the Pre as a PDA, so to speak, after it's been

de-activated by VZW? I got a replacement Pre, and activated it, and now I

realize that I need to access certain apps on the old de-activated phone so

I can export their databases. But whenever I turn on the phone it reboots

itself and wants me to create a Palm Profile. Of course, it can't do that

with no service, and it won't let me get past that.
