The Pre is really intended to be a connected device, and to get its data from the could (either an Exchange server or from Google). My personal belief is that the cloud-capability and its ability to integrate multiple sources of data (Synergy) is the biggest strength of the device. So if you don't want to use the cloud, you'll most likely have a more difficult time. If you can get past your initial difficulties, I think you'll find that the device does what it does very well. It ain't perfect, but I find it to be extremely useful. Sam
