Blainer) To my knowledge, JS never went looking for a fight. But if a
man wanted to get the best of him, he had to get some help, usually a
mob. I was actually saying more about the character of the men who
opposed him and distracted him, than about JS himself. The opposition
never acted out of Christian charity. They were the basest of men, who
operated under the influence of the Devil. They were known liars,
deceivers, murderers, rapists, women beaters, etc. I have a question
for you. Why were Joseph Smith's enemies always such a bunch of
low-lifes?

As to his integrity, there are incidents too numerous to list. Always
kept his word, even at the expense of his health, had charity and love
for others, etc. You need to read some positive stuff about him, stop
listening to the anti-stuff. As I told DavidM, read from BH Roberts. He
was a highly intelligent and objective writer.

There are two Histories of the LDS Church that I am aware of--an 8
volume set written from the records of Joseph Smith and his clerks (with
a 94 page Introduction by BH Roberts), and a 6 volume set written by BH
Roberts himself. Both are reliable sources. BTW, DaveM's "quotes" from
BH Roberts in a recent post are not found in any of Roberts' works. I
mean to take this up with him. Perhaps DaveM would care to comment on
this discrepancy.
