Blainer) to DavidM. You wrote this about JS--

"A man who drinks, cusses, enjoys a smoke, and regularly wrestles and
brawls
with people, well, that is not my idea of a man of God."

I found it unbelievable that you would go so far out on a limb--do you
have evidence that he did these things?, He would not even take a drink
of whiskey to deaden the pain during a long and painful operation on his
leg. I think you must be dreaming that he "drinks" or "enjoys a smoke."
As to cussing, where and when??? What words did he use? He wrestled
frequently, to "have fun with the boys," but never "brawled." The use
of that word is suggestive of frequenting bars and the like, and of him
being some kind of ruffian. That characterization does not hold water at
all. This is another example of you "reaching for straws." Or just
plain exaggerating Maybe your "idea of a man of God"is too idealistic?
Consider that you possibly have never known a true man of God? How can
you say what one is like? King David danced, and his wife was, like
yourself, critical, as she thought his behavior was unkingly. Sometimes
we tend to judge people on the basis of some idealistic conceptualiztion,
rather than a down-to-earth reality. People do that. As one little kid
said once when he saw his teacher buying groceries in a supermarket--she
was "trying to play human."
