It was in the early 90's that I researched this, but may be able to dig out the references. If my memory serves me right, there is some early LDS course material that actually teaches the traditional Trinity! Of course, this was soon removed or altered to reflect the current polytheistic view of the Godhead.

BTW, it is an intersting exercise to look for a motive for making such a change, especially when the prophet himself used to teach traditional Trinitarianism.
