Hi Terry you write,
Judy:
As I understand the Bible, Paradise was only for those old testament saints that were waiting for the resurrection.  People who were saved, eg. Abraham and the thief on the cross and many others.

jt: I have no problem with this, I specifically said that it was where the "righteous" dead were held before the resurrection.

Terry: The word Paradise means park or oasis and was used to describe the garden of Eden in one place.  Everyone in Paradise made it to Heaven.

jt: Yes.. I agree

Terry: To suggest that the thief was unsaved therefore would be saying that the Lord lied and the Bible is in error.

jt: I didn't say the thief was unsaved. When he repented on the cross, Jesus accepted him and the very fact that he went to Paradise rather than Sheol tells us that he was saved... 'without being baptised'

Terry: The other place, where the unsaved were held, is known as Sheol, and there was a great gulf between the two.  People in Sheol were waiting to go to Gehenna, or Hell as we commonly call it.

jt:  Yes, this is the way I have understood it also.

Grace and Peace,
Judy
