Blaine you claim Ruben should have a very good understanding  of mormonism before he even attempts to go preach to them.
Do you hold this standard also for the 60,000 LDS missionaries that go door to door?
They surely hit JW doors, Christian, Muslim, etc.
Should they master these?

***BlaineRB:  They do not claim to be experts in other religions, or spend their time knocking them as do   .  .  . certain guys I know . They are specifically counseled to avoid arguments, just teach what they are there to teach, and get on with that.  Condemning other religions is not their bag.  Opposite that are these preachers whose religion seems to be knocking and condemning other religions. (:>)  I often wonder if they might do better if they had a clear cut religion of their own to preach.  If they do, I have not been able to see what it is in most instances.

How can they master anything with just a few weeks traing at MTC?
How is it possible to send these young men, that are frankly WET BEHIND THE EARS, out all over the world with such a limited training?
Is it a shame to send 18-19 year old BOYS out door to door to talk about peoples eternal destinies, when they can not on the average, even name the books of the New testament? SHAME!

**BlaineRB:  Most have had two-three years daily seminary class work in NT and OT studies--1 hour per day, plus much home schooling.   They are usually a lot more intelligent and mature than you would expect--I have gone with on splits frequently.  They are  nice, clean, decent young men--sometimes women--eminently qualified for their jobs.  When they get through a foreign mission they are often sought after by government agencies--FBI, linguistics, etc, due to their integrity and language experience.

BlaineRB writes: Hi again Reuben,

Now that I have given you the true lowdown regards my meeting with you and the impressions I received then, maybe we can get to know one another on other levels than you attacking Mormonism.  (You do seem more than a little obsessed with doing so.) (:>)

Ruben:

Im sorry I must have missed that post.  When and where did we meetand did I yell at you or was I just a wild bellowing type of guy?

***Blaine:    The meeting took place on the North side of Temple Square in Salt Lake City during a conference in 2001 or 2002--not sure of the date.  The Conference Center was across the street.  You and Dean (Carroll) were together.  I later heard of the underwear waving, but you were apparently not into that at the time we met.  I talked to both of you for about twenty minutes.  We talked about the  Salt Lake Temple and you wanted to know why you could not go into it to preach.  I had no idea how to get it across to you why you couldn't do that.    I may have given a few superficial reasons why you could not go into the temple,  in fact I think I did make some effort to help you understand,  but generally, my impression was that for you to even ask showed an almost total lack of comprehension of  what your question entailed.  It was like asking a Jew why you could not go into the Holy of Holies, and pray on the Ark of the Covenant. (:>)  I knew then that your understanding of Mormonism was very limited.

Why do you write regarding Mormons; you do seem more than a little obsessed with doing so?  Let me tell you something, only the sodomites have said that, as we preach at their gay pride parades nationwide and next year Ill be in Israel against them.  No one is obsessed with preaching at Mormons, it just happens to be your weekendso take it like a man??  And just so you know, we exhort those at Baptist conventions, J.W.ers, hare krishnas, promise keepers and even Benny Hin, Ive even preached outside the TBN studiosso please dont make it sound like everyone is picking on Mormons.

***Blaine  I was not aware you preached to so many different groups, that much is granted, but that fact alone lends all the more credibility to my original impression that you have a shallow understanding regards the Mormon Church's workings/doctrines.  My thinking is, if you go to so many groups, how can you have much depth of understanding of the doctrines and/or workings of any one of them?   More than likely, you have a superficial, nodding knowledge of what they stand for, and that's about it.  One more thing, who set you to be their (our) judge anyway?  It is a high position to be a judge.

"Judge not lest you be judged."

We have our judges-- Bishops, Stake Presidents, etc.  But who are you?

 In fact I think that even Smith and Young would be outside with us during the Mormon convention, only because you have not honored their original teachings.

***Blaine   Neither Smith nor Young are here today, having served the Lord in their own times and callings.  However, modern prophets are here, and you dishonor them as the Pharisees did Christ.   But as for the teachings of these men  (Smith and Young), the Church publications are full of them--lesson manuals, magazines, etc.   Can you quote any of the thirteen articles of Faith, which Joseph Smith wrote to outline our basic beliefs?  I can quote all of them, having learned them when I was a boy.

When we preach the Gospel at the super bowl, the crowd never cries leave us alonego to the NBA championship and when we go to the World Series, those baseballdolaters never yell back please stop bugging uscan you go preach at the NHL.   But Mormons can walk into everybody front doorJUST DONT COME TO OURS IN SALT LAKE CITY.   Last time I checked, the Temple did not have a No Soliciting sign.

***Blaine   The Temple proper does not need such a sign, because it is private property.  The problem is you guys use/abuse your god-given freedom of speech,  and public property,  to impose your own beliefs on us when we do not invite you to do so.  Do you appreciate it when someone comes along and loudly tries to cram their religion down your throat?  I doubt you ever had that experience in the first place, since noone I know would do that except a few  like yourself.  You presume too much.

 =========================

 I read your discussion below, and as usual am impressed with your desire to spread the gospel, which seems sincere enough--I just can't fathom your totally mindless preoccupation with Mormonism!

Ruben:

I am passionate on getting Gods word out to whosoever at wheresoever people gather, so you guys get two weekends a year and you call this obsessedlike with some of the Mormon doctrine.I think you are stretccchhhing it a bit?

***Blaine   But what makes you think we need your preaching?  And even if we did, what gives you the right or authority to force the issues?  I think it was Satan's plan to force religion on people--Christ's plan is to let us all have choice in the matter.   If we choose not to listen to you, and tell you that, your task is done.  You can then go home and get a good night's rest.  But for some unknown reason, you burden yourself with this compulsive preaching .  .  . .

==========================

Did you ever think maybe you do what you do because you are addicted to the praises of men?  Your comments below would seem to indicate that to me, at least:

Ruben:

Maybe you should join me at these and let us see how many praises we get?  That was only a portion of what I do, just to show you that we dont just pick on Mormons.  Once you get over this Woe is us Mormons attitude, I think we might be able to get the second base?

***Blaine   I think if I had that much pain, I'd do something about it.  You need to lie down on a couch in someone's office, and explore your motivations.  (:>)
