Hi All,

Kevin wrote:"Where does the truth come from?
JN 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

Bruce writes:"Kevin, Truth does not come from the word. The Lord Jesus is both the word (John 1:1,2 )and the truth (John 14:6). If you are speaking of the written word, it comes from the Living Word.

Dean wrote:"By the way who is Bruce?"

Bruce writes: "Another brother in Christ, redeemed and forgiven, whose body is seated in Norwich, Ontario, Canada, but whom God has raised up and seated with Christ in heavenly places. One who used to be divided from other saints, the people of God, as a "reverend" clergy man. One who was also separated from other believers as a "Baptist" and later on as one of the "closed brethren". But now, simply one of the saints with all them that call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours"!

Jim Webber wrote:" ASSUMING BRUCE IS CORRECT, THE QUESTION WOULD BE WHAT VALUE WOULD WE PLACE ON IT, IN COMPARISON TO SCRIPTURE. IN ADDITION HOW IS IT VERIFIABLE?"

Bruce writes:"Value is not derived from the words of the message per ce, but rather from the source. So the question is to determine the source, Is it of God? For example, in comparison to scripture, is creation of greater or lesser value? Is a word of prophecy from God of greater or lesser value?

But your next question brings things into perspective: "How is it verifiable?" Extra-biblical revelation is verifiable by scripture. For example, Paul's preaching about Christ in Acts 17 was, at the time, extra-biblical revelation. His unconverted Jewish hearers wisely received the word with all readiness of mind (but did not take the words of Paul as "Gospel Truth" without verification. Rather, they searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so. Acts 17:11

DAVEH wrote:" Hope you don't mind me intruding into this thread, Bruce. Hmmmmmm.....was Revelation the last NT book written?"

Bruce writes: I believe it was. See Rev.22:18,19.

Dave Hansen wrote:" If not, would that change your thinking on this?"

Bruce writes: Does scripture give evidence of this idea? What other writings written later would claim to be scripture?

DAVEH: Just curious about what you think about how the Jews felt about the NT revelations relative to their accepted OT revelations. IOW, do you they think they thought some of the NT stuff contradicted the OT stuff?

Bruce writes: No doubt, when they first heard, many did THINK it was contradictory. But those who checked that revelation with the old covenant scriptures found it that it was in perfect harmony! See Acts 17:11.
