Blaine:  Jumping into this discussion I thought perhaps I'd offer a bit of
personal wisdom (apart from my Mormon beliefs)--In ancient times, the wise
men--astrologers--ascribed four fundamental qualities to men--symbolized
by the four fixed signs of the zodiac, which are Taurus (spiritual), Leo (heart),
Scorpio (physical), and Aquarius (intellectual).

Judy:
Astrology is under the ban Blaine; it is something the pagan nations were
involved with that Israel was not to have anything to do with and this is
wisdom from the wrong tree.

Blaine:
These same four qualities are alluded to by the Saviour when he describes
in what manner we must love God.  We must love him with all our
"heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength."

Judy:
Yes, heart (spirit), soul (mind will emotions), strength (physical body).
these are all part of triune man.

Blaine:
This appears to be three, not four qualities.  Yet the four qualities
are there--the word "soul" includes both the physical body, and the spirit.

Judy:
Soul and spirit are not the same, they can be divided by the Word of God.
(that's scripture, not the BofM) and soul is not the same as spirit, nor is
it the same as the physical body.

Blaine:
Thus we have the three thousand "souls" of men being converted
on the day of Pentacost.

Judy:
The word is used in more than one context; I use it in every day
conversation as an adjective "kind soul", "sweet soul", etc. and
3,000 souls just means 3,000 people.

Blaine:
We are converted as souls--mind, heart, body and spirit--to the love
of God.  Nothing less than our complete souls is required.

Judy:
A body is not converted Blaine - the body is dust with no power of will
or choice until animated by spirit/soul (the breath of God) - He created
man for someone to fellowship with.
