What do you think the significance of salvation of the soul, if any, is? If there is such a thing, then it would definitely resolve the tension between the "salvation by faith" and the "salvation by works" (or "faith + works") camps.

jt: My belief is that the salvation of the soul is paramount because it is basically what the cross was/is all about; it is the end result of faith ie: "Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you..." (1 Peter 1:9)

I don't find a tension between faith and works in scripture but I hear it in Christian circles because of a misunderstanding of the obedience that comes by faith (Romans 16:25,26) - this is probably a fallout from so many years of rule by a false system of control who used religious "works" to keep souls in bondage - and then along came Luther who received his revelation of "salvation by faith" at the time of the Reformation followed by Calvin with his peculiar spinI can recall being so frustrated early in my walk before I understood these issues by trying to communicate with believers who would not discuss the truths of God's Word without first trying to categorize me personally as either Arminian or Calvinistic like everything hinged on these traditions alone - and I didn't even know what they were talking about.

Do any of you have a problem with the following?
We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8)
The engrafted Word is able to save your/our soul (James 1:21) (obedience to it that is)
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17)
Whatsoever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23)
Israel failed the first time around, they didn't make it because they did not mix God's Word with faith in their hearts (Romans 9:32, Hebrews 2:2, Hebrews 4:6) so they did not enter into His rest.

Grace and Peace,
