Careful John,
What if the theology is three bricks short of a full load? I agree that it's not theology that saves. Jesus Christ is the Word of God - and this is what will make us free - as we walk in it becoming doers rather than hearers only deceiving our own selves..
More than likely, we are saying the same thing in different words. BillT mentioned something to the effect that teaching or doctrine is a path to God. I was a little taken back by that response, thought about it, and agreed. Still, love as opposed to doctrinal correctness (doctrinal exactness might be a better term) is a foundation stone f our relationship with the Lord. We all start out as "babes" and progress in different ways and at differing rates of maturity. Because discipleship is a growth process, I fully expect to encounter poor conclusions and mistaken teachings in the lives of all you claim the Name.
I was saved, I am saved and I will be saved are all terms used in scripture to describe my soteriolgical relationship with the Lord. In those words is the notion of growth. We cannot admit to the reality of spiritual growth without admitting the reality of being and thinking poorly -- hopefully in decreasing measure. You spoke of "becoming doers ..." Becoming is a growth concept. I agree with your words above. Hopefully, then, you agree with mine.
