I know where you're coming from. However, the Leviticus passage is the ONLY place "turtles" is used. Everywhere else, it's "turtle doves." Clearly a mistake in translation. ===================================================== You probably already know this, but the meaning is turtle dove, or as we know them, mourning doves.  Somewhere else in the OT, it says "The voice of the turtle was heard throughout the land." Doves were an acceptable substitute for a lamb when the one offering the sacrifice was too poor to afford a sheep.  Mary sacrificed two turtle doves when Jesus was born (Shortly thereafter) Terry
