Iz:You will stay after school in order to write on the blackboard 100x 'corrupted by higher learning'. Thereafter you'll be required to write plain-spoken essay on 'why I don't yet understand what Slade's meaning is' on this point. For the time being you may carry on with your normal chores.

Slade can answer this better than I can, but I wanted to say that most Jews I knownomatter how unfamiliar they are with the Bibleare very cognizant of the Law.  Unless they are totally away from their Jewish roots they keep Sabbath and observe kosher rules.  However very few of them know scripture, as it is only read in the synagogue (the Torah only) on the Sabbath, and it takes a year to go through very selected parts of it.  I believe that only the Orthodox Jews (who are comparatively few in number) actually study scripture in any depth.  I think that during Jesus day only the brightest and the best academically were kept in extended schooling for the purpose of learning Torah and Talmud.  The sons of fishermen, carpenters, etc., were probably trained in their fathers business rather than schooling.  Thus Peter, et al., were probably just considered country hicks like most of us on TT.   Jesus probably chose them for exactly that reason, come to think of itthey hadnt been corrupted by higher learning from the frozen chosen. For what it's worth, in the tenth chapter of Acts, when Peter was in a trance and saw the sheet come down with all the food in it, God told him to eat.  Peter's response was that he had never eaten anything that was unclean.  That would indicate to me that he was familiar with some portion of the law, and if a portion, possibly all.

jt: You don't need to answer but I'm wondering why God's Word is wisdom only to those who live someplace

other than Galilee?  Unlearned says to me they have no education which is why they would appear ignorant.

If the disciples had memorized the whole Torah then how come the Saducees took note that they were "ignorant and unlearned men?" (Acts 4:13).

Because they were from Galilee.
