Yes, I am familiar with the bait and switch tactic in retailing. No, I do not see how this might be applied to what I did here.

We were discussing the founding fathers. Bill argued, "they did not obey God, neither did they submit to their governing authorities." I responded with reference to the Declaration of Independence as evidence that they were not the rebels that Bill characterizes them to be. I also made the point that the success of establishing a nation is evidence that God was behind what was done. Then Bill responded with the following:

". . . the outcome of the establishment of this nation as independent from
the other indicates God approved and sanctioned it."

This sounds very deterministic, not to mention definitive, David. Did Allah
give you these words Himself? :>) In your reading of history have you
distinguished the intent of the Virginians over against that of the New
Englanders (themselves for the most part being staunch Federal Calvinists,
just a short step removed from both deism -- and Allah)? It seems to me that
those "men who truly understood submission AND the need for government"
(emphasis added) may have blinked at just about the most inopportune times.
But I guess you probably gathered that from my very simplistic presentation.

I don't understand this emotional outburst or what he is trying to communicate. The most factual and rational thing I could extract from this post was that he believed that the founding fathers "blinked" at inopportune times, meaning, I suppose, that they missed opportunities to remedy the problems through peaceful means. So I asked for examples of this. I don't see how this is "bait and switch." I am only asking him to support his assertion.

If you see it otherwise, go ahead and explain. Do not assume that everyone sees this the same way as you do. Also understand that I cannot read between the lines of Bill's posts as well as someone like you because I have a different world view than he does while you and he share similar world views.

Peace be with you.
David Miller.
