Hi Izzy;

I agree that we need to discern in order to understand what is being said to us and what is being done to us. A good friend of mine frequently says, hearing is 10%, interpretation is 90%. What we hear gets filtered through our theology and our relationship with God. I think it's good to check out what we believe and what we hear in a community of believers.

And I am wondering what is the impact of Jere 31:31-34 on this discussion.   Specfically, the part that tells us, ..."no more will every man teach his neighbor and every man his brother saying  'know the Lord' for all will know me .."   ??

One of the Baptist's Distinctives is Individual Soul Freedom and I do believe that each of us have the right to decide for ourselves what is true. However, we do learn lots in a community of believers. There we receive corrections and new ideas to think through. There also, hopefully, we receive healing so that we can think more clearly. I'm a great believer in community worship and teaching. In other words, I believe in church. :-)

Love,
