be not dismayed, Terry. I actually think your little paragraph is profoundly stated. At least it was a help to me.

Terry, I am shocked by what you have just written. Never have I seen you post something so wrong. You put the New Covenant on the same footing as the Old Covenant! Please reconsider in light of Scripture. Hebrews 6:1 tells us to go on unto perfection: Hebrews 6:1 (1) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation ... And the author does not speak about this in unobtainable terms, but contrasts how what was unattainable under the Old Covenant is accomplished by faith in Christ. Hebrews 7:19 (19) For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. There are many other passages, but perhaps we should start with one. Clearly you can see a difference between what is possible under the two covenants. They are not on the same footing when it comes to righteousness and perfection. Also note that Paul speaks about himself and other believers being perfect in the following passages: Philippians 3:15 (15) Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 1 Corinthians 2:6-7 (6) Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: (7) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Peace be with you.
