These two statements do not mesh, especially in view of the fact that you have stated that one cannot do anything good before or apart from the Holy Spirit - because of the fallen nature of man.
Now you are putting words in both my mouth and that of DavidM. I have never argued that we are saved by keeping commandments and You must obey Jesus before God will give you the Holy Spirit JD. He gives the Holy Spirit to those who obey Him.
