Terry, I agree completely that Jesus never desired to do anything but obey His heavenly Father.  That does not mean He was never tempted, as scripture says he was very clearly. By definition you cannot be tempted w/o there being an attractive invitation.  You and I also desire to obey the Father.  That does not mean we cannot be tempted to do otherwise, but we can choose to obey, like Jesus did.  Then there is no sin.  Being vulnerable to temptation is not the same as being sinful; would you agree? izzy

I have read it several times Iz, and can only conclude that this means Satan TRIED to tempt Him but was obviously unsucessful.  James says very plainly that tempation is only a done deal when one is drawn AWAY by his desires.  The desire of God the Son was to do the will of God the Father.   Jesus died to self to serve the Father, just as we are to do,  Therefore, the temptation mentioned was only a wasted effort.  Otherwise, we have one of those contradictions you are talking about.   I suspect you will disagree.  When you do, please show me where the desires of Jesus  went astray.
Thanks in advance.

I DON'T SEE A CONTRADICTION IZ.  God cannot be tempted because God has no evil desires.

So, Terry, it seems that scripture contradicts itself.  How do you resolve that, unless it was the human part of Jesus which was tempted? izzy

       18For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.

=====================================================================
  James 1:13-14 "
Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God", for God cannot be tempted by evil nor does He Himself tempt anyone.  But each one is tempted when drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

 The desire of God, the Son, was to do the will of God the Father.  It was impossible to tempt him to do evil because there was no evil desire in His flesh.
