excuse me for that,
but that makes it even more mysterious, since the only difference for  
you is that raid1 is compiled as a module. I can only guess that  
there is a difference that we can't see now ...

The biggest problem might be that I can't replicate the settings  
here, since I have tsl2.2 and tsl3 with boot raid1, but not the tsl2.2 
+upgrade kernel thing.

since I had my own fight with mkinitrd in tsl3 with a change of a  
sata controller (order of modules loaded and so on), I would guess  
there is something strange in the way the scripts for starting are  
generated in mkinitrd.

but that's just a guess,
if you find it, please let us know.
