Trying to start a flamewar ? :-)  PostgreSQL is _not_ slow, test your own
applications and see for yourself. I'm very happy with overall PostgreSQL
performance compared to others, such as Oracle and Sybase. MySQL is just
out of the question - the data is too important.

Are you sure you did vaccum analyze in PostgreSQL ? This is critical for
the query optimizer and can give you a dramatic speed increase.
