The good folk here might be able to answer this. Sky Sports in the UK (think ESPN) shows NFL in the UK, and the coverage is pretty good with all the NBC, ESPN and NFL Network games, as well as a choice of two games from CBS/Fox each Sunday for early and late starts.
But all the regular season games are in 4:3 aspect ratio, whereas now we're post-season, they're suddenly widescreen. Is it just something to do with the feed the NFL/host broadcasters upload for our consumption that means earlier season games aren't widescreen? (Note: I see that all CBS and Fox regular season games this year were HD, but I certainly didn't see them in widescreen. And Sky is usually pretty good about getting a widescreen signal if one's available - much of its international sport comes in that format these days). The only exception to this rule seems to have been the Wembley game played here in London which we did see in widescreen. Perhaps the cost of covering every game in HD is still too expensive? Although given the vast sums paid by networks for coverage I'd have thought that presenting them in the best possible quality would be high on the list. I'd be interested to know. As a final aside, it's always entertaining to get the various networks previews for upcoming episodes "this week" which we'll not see for weeks, months or ever! (I don't suppose UK networks have been clammering to buy "The Biggest Loser" for example. Leno's new show will also miss out on that resale cash).
