I don't disagree with that. Which is why I detest "American Idol," which aims at the same mass-appeal pursued by "90% of the today's recording 'artists'" - the ones that you compare with the "AI" contestants. I listen to scads of music from talented contemporary bands and singer-songwriters - none of whom would be welcome on "A.I.," because they don't pander to that M.O.R. sensibility.
