Possibly, though there is an argument to be made that many on this list forget how well liked Leno is across America. Certainly, that is something the critics forget. Those who like him don't care about ratings or demos or competition or Hollywood insider gossip. Those who like him will suffer fools (critics) gladly and continue to like him. He pointed out in this interview that he is the "mainstream" guy, and he is. I still think it would be fun to see him let off the leash and do a show almost devoid of format -- let him improvise comedy, banter with the band (or whoever the guest is), and just be comfortable in his surroundings. If anything, that's my chief criticism of Jay -- that he is not the same person off camera as on -- that he is funnier off camera, and that he needs to bring more of himself to his TV show. Have him wear denim, talk about cars, bad mouth legitimately bad movies (the way he did during the writer's strike), or whatever else interests him. -- Kevin M.
