This is clearly too simplistic a point to make, but that's never stopped me before:
Why the hell don't they just cancel Jay, outright? Say "we tried a crazy experiment, it failed, it wouldn't be the first time in network television that something didn't work out." The end. Why are they so hell-bent on using Jay no matter what? Is it because they fear what will happen if Jay finds a place at another network? From my point of view, NBC can't go much further down; the risk of Jay stealing (already meager) NBC audiences would be worth unloading him clean and just moving on. Or am I missing some contract clause that forces NBC to give Jay something, anything?
