Based on the information Mr. Dravecky has provided, I'd like to make
the following correction: Vernon County is actually southeast of
LaCrosse, not southwest. I regret the error.

March 5, 1952: A young Oprah Winfrey interviews Senator Joseph

implication that the Voice of America was being infiltrated by
Communists. Winfrey does not challenge any of the accusations made
my
McCarthy, instead turning the interview towards McCarthy's
now-legendary love of buttermilk pancakes with honey butter and his
appreciation for his vacation cottage in Vernon County, southwest of
LaCrosse. Winfrey ends the interview by thanking him for his
"tireless
effort on the front lines of the Red Menace."
Now all we need is for some news outlet to pick this up and run it.
Yes, especially as she lived in Wisconsin from age 6 to age 13 (says
Wikipedia) but The Big O was born on this date (January 29) in 1954
which would make any 1952 interview by her all the more incredible.
