I think this quote in the penultimate graph tels you everything you need to
know about Katie: "Ms. Couric says she wants to build the show around
conversations with newsmakers — she mentioned Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga."

That is her definition of the range of newsmakers - which makes sense for a
cohost of the Today Show, or a daytime chat show, but never made sense for
the anchor of the Evening News.

While Carter says she wants the 4:00 slot, he also says that by the time
they made the deal, 4:00 had already been promised in a number of markets. I
did a little TiVo research this morning and found that ABC (at least in San
Francisco) already has women-oriented talk shows on at 9:00 (Regis and Kelly
Lee) and 10:00 (The View). They have Who Wants to Be A Millionaire at 11:30,
with what looks like local news at 11:00 and soaps on at 12, 1 and 2 (GH is
at 2). At 3 they have local news. I know that one or two of the soaps have
been cancelled, to be already replaced by other talk shows.

Aside from the 4:00 slot (which I take it from the article is the Oprah
slot) which is the most desirable slot? Is 3:00 better than 9:00? If 9:00 is
better, is it possible that when Regis leaves they might move Katie into
that slot?
