I'm so glad I haven't had to endure local news for the last two weeks,
because for a month or so the "news" has treated this as the end of
days. Every freeway status sign in Southern California has been
warning of this stupidity instead of providing updates on freeway
conditions occurring at that moment. Oddly enough, when they closed
the freeway to destroy the old 22/405 overpass a few months back, they
issued no warnings at all and the world didn't end. Same freeway...
same basic scenario... no two month preamble needed.

People outside of the area have no idea how absolutely apesh*t local
news has gone over this. Imagine if we had been given two months
notice of the OJ verdict or MJ's death... that is how insane they are
treating this.

Seriously, a closed freeway in LA is only marginally different than an
open freeway in LA.
