I take backseat to no one in my disdain for Tim McCarver's broadcasting since he has been at Fox (in an earlier incarnation he was actually pretty good). And I am no fan of his partner young Joe B., though I do not hate him nearly as much. But I did enjoy Buck's tribute to McCarver at the end of tonight's All-Star broadcast (a show that really tried much too hard for a signature moment with Rivera). It looked like they really did surprise him on air with that announcement that they were putting his scorecard in the Hall of Fame. And the only think that makes McCarver tolerable these days is seeing him through the eyes of Joe Buck - that is the kid inside Joe Buck who loved baseball and the Cardinals, and was born the year McCarver left the Cards the first time, but must have been around 4 or 5 the year he came back, and McCarver must be some kind of link for young Buck to his father.
Lots of other things I could say that still bug the hell out of me about Fox's All Star game coverage, and baseball coverage in general, but that was a nice moment. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
