So, my criticism was not of the solo walk-on by Mariano, which was nice,
but of how Fox pimped some kind of Mariano moment for the entire broadcast.
I probably fast forwarded through it, but I am sure they had a bumper
during one of the commercials saying "stay tuned for a very special Mariano
Moment in the 9th inning". Yes, we knew they were going to try to get him
to close the game, we knew it would be a cool all-star game moment when he
came in, but for the sake of all that is good and holy, please try to just
let some of these things unfold somewhat naturally. As it was, it made the
fact that they brought him in for the 8th (for obvious reasons) something
of a let-down. I was telling my son Leyland should have let Nathan get the
first 2 outs in the 8th, bring in Mariano for the last out, and then let
him pitch the entire 9th if necessary.

Melting Diamond out of his cryo-crypt after the Boston attacks to sing
Çaroline in NY was cool. Making us sit through his blood curdling
performance one more time was cruel and unusual punishment, but typical of
Fox Sports that never met a cheesy moment it would not stretch for in order
to reveal its fat and hairy underbelly.
