Seacrest actually would be another obvious choice, if he were available. Assuming they did want to change any of the other locked in Olympic assignments that the people would have prepped for over the last weeks and months, they basically had the choice between the former and current co-host of Today, and went with the former. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
