With Costas scheduled to return for Monday night's broadcast, perhaps the idle
speculation will turn to whether or not it was timed for Mr. Fallon's first
Tonight Show.

I think it is more interesting that they immediately went to a high-profile
person from the news department for the prime time show instead of bringing in
Al Michaels (who's doing the studio segments in daytime and is associated with
one of the USA's most memorable moments in any winter Olympics) and finding
whoever happened to be free on any given day to take over his spot on NBCSN.

It was already obvious to me that someone at NBC preferred Meredith to Savannah
when she did the opening ceremonies despite every other one I can recall being
hosted by Bob Costas and whoever the current female co-anchor of Today happened
to be at that time. However, I wonder if, after Lauer's apparent inability to
keep the schedule up for more than three days, they decided to go with someone
who can afford to disappear from their other duties without causing major
disruption.
