Oliver's show will be based out of New York and the only references I've seen
as to what the format will be is that one writer referred to it as "similar to
the Daily Show" and that it would be airing on HBO on Sunday nights so as to
not conflict with Stewart's show on Comedy Central.

Of course, HBO has a tendency to repeat programs throughout the week so does
that mean they will only repeat Oliver's show on Fridays and Saturdays? I doubt
it.

Winner

And you can add "@Midnight" to the LA list, although that show has a bias
towards standups before anyone else. However, hipster chanteuse Neko Case was
a panelist the other night and won the game, so anyone who is quick-witted
theoretically can be booked on that show. Arsenio is also LA and as being
scheduled exclusively in late-night should be counted.

I'm assuming that John Oliver's show will be based in New York and although I
haven't heard of an exact format, I would assume that there will be guests of
some sort, either straight interview or panel.

I'm not so sure this IS a win for Kimmel (or SCG, or Conan, for that
matter). Consider what's in NYC aside from "Tonight" and "Late Show":

    - Late Night
    - SNL
    - TDS
    - Colbert
    - All three major network morning shows
    - Kelly & Michael
    - Major studio operations for all major cable news outlets
    - SXM (including Howard Stern)
    - Olbermann (for those sports-inclined night owls)

Contrast that with what's left in LA, apart from Kimmel/Conan/Ferguson:

    - All varieties of televised entertainment "news" (ET, Access Hollywood,
Extra, etc.)
    - E!
    - Ellen (and other LA-produced syndies)
    - Real Time

I'm sure I'm leaving shows/outlets off both lists, but it seems to me like
that trekking out to NY won't be viewed as a worthless trip from a PR
perspective. (Although I should ask my wife's cousin - she's a partner at PR
house in Hollywood...)

One other win for Kimmel: He's now the only 11:35 show in Los Angeles.
Stars with something to promote who don't want to go back east are going to end
up his show. And while I don't expect anything approaching a war, it will be
interesting to see how the Late Show and Tonight share guests.
