Assuming Dave is out of the producing game as Pants hasn't produced
anything in years, there is no reason for him to hold on to the name Late
Show. The CBS press
release<http://www.cbs.com/shows/late_show/news/1002302/>said that
producers and venue are still to be determined. So Pants might be
interested in continuing to produce, but even if not, I'm sure that CBS
will get the names Late Show and Late Late Show in exit negotiations.

Allen and Paar both left late night to do weekly prime time shows and I
doubt either cared about a transition. NBC chose Carson pretty quickly
after Paar left but ABC would not let Carson out of his game show contract
and NBC went with guest hosts for six months.
