Their challenge will be that almost certainly the large fraction of Colbert
Nation will be switching to CBS at 11:35 - and most of them are also part
of TDS audience. So, will it still make sense for them to package a TDS
comedy hour? I don't recall what used to follow TDS before CR - but CC must
be wanting not to go back to what probably was a lower-rated half hour. It
seems like they have to choose between a new show in the same comic
universe and with the same sensibility as TDS/CR (and of that I love the
idea of a Bee/Jones Morning Show, although Aasif Mandvi is one of my
favorite people on television right now, and anything he was interested in
doing I would be interested in watching. He is actually capable of doing
very silly humor, very tight satire, and very serious commentary, and a
show that combined those would be fantastic) or going in the direction of a
sketch show, and broaden to people not into the more political comedy of
the TDS. I will be surprised if they do some kind of wheel format at 11:30
- for me at least (and I am much older than their target demo) one reason I
don't watch Key and Peele as often as I would like is that I don't have any
real sense of when it is on. I have a season pass set for it now to record
new shows, but I have no sense of what one of those might be coming. The
TDS/CR Hour has given CC a real core, stable identity, and I would think
they would be hoping to retain that somehow.
