My heart wants to defend the show from your cynical barb, but my head agrees with it. I always thought that, even in character, Colbert was the best talk show interviewer I had ever seen, but he often seems uncomfortable and stilted on Late Show, and too often the comedy bits seem forced and contrived. If video killed the radio star, then youtube seems to be killing intelligent late night talk shows. Colbert seems like a high school student who has decided not to come off as too smart so bullies don't take his lunch money and give him a flushie.
It seems like only yesterday that the discussion was about how to monetize Youtube; now it seems like the only conversation is how commercial TV can get itself "amplified" (or whatever that term is that they use) onto Youtube.
