I guess the point I'm making is just about every network television
journalist since the 1970s is the product of a whole team of people.
Barbara Walters was Barbara Walters in part, I think, not because of her
talent or experience but the fact that ABC was willing to dump so much
money into  her work. Mike Wallace got extra staff at "60 Minutes" because
he had the Mike Wallace image to maintain. If Megyn Kelly were only doing a
dozen interviews a year she, too, would look spectacular. Couric had good
live interview skills. Walters, too maybe. I'm not old enough to remember.
I don't have cable. I haven't watched a lot of Kelly. Her live interview
skills were pretty good. Her success in daytime and promotion to prime time
on FOX News was earned, not just because of her looks, from what I can
tell. Perhaps this is the Peter Principle. She's been elevated to her level
of incompetence.
