Bauder’s review is pretty much consistent with my own view (though it does seem he only sampled the games on NBC and NBCSports Channel). I thought all the Curling announcers were great. The Biathalon announcers had some problems, but that is a difficult sport to cover, with long periods of not too much happening punctuated by a few seconds when everything is happening at once.
Very glad to hear the next two Olympics in Asia will use the same approach. This story contextualizes its report that ratings were down from 4 years ago with the obvious fact that TV ratings for almost everything are down from 4 years ago. I think from now on no ratings comparison should ever be made without some mathematical correction for ratings deterioration. Totally agree about Bode Miller - just talking about this today. Without doubt he was the worst analyst working the Olympics this year. Totally disagree with how this sentence ends: “Anything that minimizes the presence of storytellers Mary Carillo and Jimmy Roberts is a minus.” Substitute “plus” and it is right on.
