Think of it in terms of something we here are more familiar with - why did Netflix give David Letterman a monthly show? We know it has nothing to do with ratings since Netflix has nothing to do with them anyway. In fact they don't care how many watch each show since everybody watching is already a subscriber and they are not selling commercial time. The value of a Letterman show is the association of Letterman to Netflix which gives incentive to people considering joining or sustaining their subscriptions.
