No compilation is required. 64-bit files work fine on 32-bit UniVerse. You will be best served by making sure you have a working back-up, then converting the needed files to 64-bit. Instructions should be in the manuals.
As always, do take a look at upgrading as well. 9.6 is an extremely old release. Being on later versions means if you ever run into issues with your System, it will be much easier to get assistance to get back up and running.
