I managed to get some control of my terminal by hitting my uparrow key
to give me a blinking cursor.  I did the uname -r and got:

3.9.0-030900rc5-generic

I then did a sudo reboot and then when it came back I did still have the
same control that I did before the reboot.  So after you quit laughing
at my technique  be encouraged by the fact that the window doesn't lock
up like it did before.

Since I'm handicapped here in my window, I'll just go and create another
vm using a beta 2 latest.
