Well, it used to be that someone else would buy up the business or the number range. But these days it is not so clear cut as OFCOM actually charge for some number blocks (and would like to for all), so instead of being an asset, the number blocks can be a liability. So yes, the numbers can simply stop working - well done OFCOM!
