Hi,

Yes I agree it can easily be an 'optional extra' but their £ pricing against
the line-items does kinda' shout "You are paying for more than just another
floor socket" - if you know what I mean.... That alone helped to concrete the
belief that we had something resilient. I could have fitted my own splitters if
I just needed more commandos ;)

As for the paying for capacity twice, as a facility owner myself I can relate
to this to a certain degree because (if done properly) you are looking at 2x
the infrastructure, physical space, maintenance, cable size/quantity and so on.
However - it doesn't need to result in 2x the pricing when implemented
correctly. Also, the definitions of what someone is getting should be made
clear to them using standard terminology. In such a way that they can make an
informed decision whether it's what they want or not (again, bit late now, but
hey).

Totally misusing the terminology on purpose (as I genuinely believe has been
done here) is a violation of trust / miss sold product.

As I mentioned to someone (off list) just now, we have similar PoPs at other
facilities where their second power feeds are sold as "Additional Power Feeds"
with no suggestion that they are redundant or diverse. In fact, at THN we were
explicitly told when ordering some more recently that it would be from a
different PDU but the same UPS. Which just added weight to the belief that we
were paying for a 'better' solution at this particular site, especially when
coupled with the associated charges.

We are still in discussions with them so maybe they will come round to
understanding why we are so annoyed. Faults happen, I get that, but when you
have been paying for something specifically to protect you against that very
fault - it's frustrating to find you were wasting your money the whole time.

Cheers,

Similarly some in DR Sovereign House were surprised to find their two feeds
were from the same PDU when they had some major outages some time ago. DR are
happy to supply really redundant feeds but you have to pay for the power you're
using twice to have capacity on two independent DRUPS

I've found the same at other $big_name_bitbarn_operator - you pay "to reserve
the power"
