ipv4 will fade when it becomes more expensive and troublesome than ipv6. If we attempt to short-cut this process and kill ipv4 with policy and artificial deadlines, it will will fail just like it failed with the ISO / OSI debacle all those years ago.

The fact that ipv4 is still with us is an extraordinary testament to its resilience.
